Introduction

Électeurs en Herbe was inspired by a quebecois project born in 2001. It is a citizenship education program aimed towards people from 11 to 18 years old in the context of a real election campaign.

This 5-step program offers real and participatory activities to educate young people on citizenship. The approach includes simulated elections which allow young people to position themselves on the actual candidates. In Quebec, the program has impacted more than 300 000 people for 10 years.

A civic experience grounded in reality

Électeurs en Herbe was created to provide a real and participatory experience about citizenship.

Simulated elections are a way to implement a broader educational program over a few weeks. This program covers medias and information education, debates, opinion’s building and critical thinking…

Turnkey lesson series

Each lesson series includes educational activities that can vary in nature and complexity. You can pick lessons plans that interest you to create your own lessons series, suitable to the time you have and your educational goals.

Suggested method and duration are only indications, you can adapt them to your audience and constraints (ex: group size).

Active teaching methods

Activities available on Électeurs en Herbe use active teaching methods. The goal is for young people to build knowledge from varied learning experiences of which they are the makers and actors.

These activities value teamwork to promote cooperation between participants, as well as respect for others and their differences (especially of opinions).

A collaborative approach

On our educational toolbox

Our toolbox is produced collaboratively by the association’s educational committee . Half of the committee is from the French Education system, the other half are youth workers.

An online community:

All education material are available on Électeurs en Herbe‘s website. The website has been designed in order to ease the sharing of experiences (intended to the educational community). It allows this community to:

  • Give feedback on the educational activities and submit new ones;
  • Ask questions and interact with members of the community.

Partnerships

We advise scholar establishments and local associations to work together to implementation the program.
